FORT WORTH, Texas – American Airlines, along with its fellow oneworld® alliance members, today welcomes Kuala Lumpur-based Malaysia Airlines into the oneworld alliance, strengthening the alliance’s connectivity between key business cities in Asia and other parts of the world. Beginning today, American’s customers can to earn and redeem American Airlines AAdvantage® miles when traveling on Malaysia Airlines, another key benefit to oneworld membership.

With the addition of Malaysia Airlines, oneworld will significantly expand its route network and its ability to offer more services and benefits to customers. Malaysia Airlines, which serves more than 60 destinations in almost 30 countries, will substantially expand the alliance’s network in rapidly expanding Southeast Asia.

AAdvantage Special Promotion

In celebration of Malaysia Airlines’ inauguration into the oneworld alliance, members of the AAdvantage program can earn double miles every time they fly an eligible fare on Malaysia Airlines between Feb. 15 and April 15, 2013. To participate in the AAdvantage double miles promotion, members need to register prior to travel using promotion code MHDBL. New Codeshare Agreement

In addition, American and Malaysia Airlines signed an agreement to codeshare on each other’s flights in order to deepen the two airlines’ relationship and provide new growth opportunities for both American and Malaysia Airlines in Southeast Asia and the United States, respectively. Following government approvals, the new codeshare agreement will offer customers more seamless choices by allowing the two airlines to work together to improve flight schedules and connection times.

“Our extensive codeshare relationship with Malaysia Airways will provide our customers with easy, premium access when traveling to and from Southeast Asia and beyond,” said Kurt Stache, American’s Vice President – Strategic Alliances. “We are also excited to be welcoming an award-winning airline such as Malaysia Airlines into the oneworld alliance.”

The agreement with Malaysia Airlines will include placing American’s code on nonstop flights between Malaysia’s hub in Kuala Lumpur and its Southeast Asia destinations, as well as flights to the carriers’ European gateways such as Paris and London. Customers can begin booking travel on codeshare flights as early as Feb. 24, 2013 for travel beginning March 1, 2013.

With the launch of this new codeshare agreement, American will have partnerships with four of the six Skytrax 5-Star rated airlines including Cathay Pacific, Hainan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines and Qatar Airways. The exclusive top-tier Star Ranking by Skytrax is awarded to airlines achieving the highest quality performance status recognizing the airlines at the forefront of product and service delivery.
