(eTN) - The airline's international manager, Ed Sims, says successful applicants will assist passengers with travel and itinerary questions, and keep travellers company if stranded at airports.

Mr Sims says the role will take pressure off existing cabin crew staff, who have seen a 25% rise in passengers since last October.

He says applications for the 90 positions will be available from Thursday, with the first onboard concierges due to begin work in April.

Air New Zealand believes the role is a world-first and says the service will be available only on long-haul flights.
