LOS ANGELES, California – Green Globe announced certification of Movenpick Resort & Spa Mauritius, located in the heart of the nature preserve of Bel Ombre, on the southwest coast of Mauritius. This resort identifies and promotes sustainable strategies, and has demonstrated corporate social responsibility for the past few years. The success of Movenpick Hotels & Resortsโ€™ sustainability efforts lies in its integration into their business strategy.

โ€œWe are proud to earn the prestigious Green Globe certification,โ€ said Francois Marot, General Manager at the Movenpick Resort & Spa Mauritius, โ€œTrue to our motto โ€˜Think and act right today for a better tomorrow,โ€™ we strive to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. I would like to thank the entire hotel team for their commitment and ongoing efforts that resulted in achieving this wonderful award and the international recognition.โ€

A long-term sustainability management system is in effect at the Movenpick Resort & Spa Mauritius, several energy and water-saving initiatives in progress. Waste volume, weight and reduction goals are specified, a comprehensive reuse and recycle policy is in place. The hotel donates used bed sheets, uniforms, and towels to local charities. Packaging is reduced to a minimum and the purchasing policy favors suppliers adhering to environmental practices. The property supports community-related activities and local entrepreneurs to sell sustainable products that are based on the areaโ€™s nature, history, and culture.

Green Globe Certificationโ€™s CEO, Guido Bauer, commented: โ€œWe are extremely pleased to award certification to the Movenpick Resort & Spa Mauritius. This resort fully supports the โ€˜Mauritius Sustainable Island Projectโ€™ launched by Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam in 2008. The MSI Project aims to create sustainable and resilient economic wealth that benefits all, while preserving the environment, natural resources, social justice, and the quality of life for the population. The MSI Fund also develops its own programs, which focus on rationalizing the use of water, rainwater recovery, the construction of sustainable buildings, and raising environmental awareness in schools. Movenpick Hotels and Resorts is one of the largest hotel groups to commit to Green Globe Certification for all properties worldwide.โ€

The audit for the Movenpick Resort Taba was conducted by Farnek Avireal, lead sustainable consultancy in the MENA region. For additional information, please contact Sandrine Le Biavant, e-mail: [email protected] .
