TAIPEI, Taiwan – Foreign tourists are expected to have brought NT$340 billion (US$11.68 billion) into Taiwan as of the end of 2012, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications forecast Tuesday.

That figure will represent significant growth over the NT$326 billion brought in by foreign visitors in 2011.

Taiwan welcomed its 7 millionth foreign visitor of the year that day, the first time foreign arrivals have reached such a milestone, the Tourism Bureau said.

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications predicted that the growth will continue and that the annual number of tourists will hit 10 million by 2016.

It attributed the remarkable growth to the influx of Chinese tourists and vowed to improve the quality of the tour packages offered to them.
