WestJet Airlines, based in Canada, began its new daily service between Toronto and Port of Spain on Friday, November 16, 2012. The service will arrive at the Piarco International Airport at 6:00 am and depart at 7:00 am and provide travelers with additional seats at competitive fares.

The airline, which boasts one of the youngest fleets of Boeing 737s in the industry, flies to more than 70 destinations in Canada, the United States of America, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

The arrival of WestJet into Trinidad and Tobago signals a healthy growth in the local aviation industry. WestJet joins locally-owned and operated Caribbean Airlines as one of two airlines now servicing the Toronto to Port of Spain route. This new service is in accordance with the existing open skies air service agreement between Trinidad and Tobago and Canada which gives airlines flexibility in route selection, service frequency, and pricing.

With the Canadian source marketing being described as one of the top ten international tourism spenders, the new flights would go a long way in supporting and enhancing ongoing efforts to increase arrivals to Trinidad and Tobago from Canada.

At present, the Canadian market accounts for 12 percent of all visitor arrivals into Trinidad and Tobago. The majority of these visitors come to visit friends or relatives, termed as VFRs, and this is symbolic of the continuing close ties between Trinidad and Tobago and Canada.

The new WestJet flights will mean that visitors to Trinidad and Tobago from Canada can avail themselves of additional seats at competitive fares and, therefore, a greater opportunity to connect with friends and loved ones or to visit the twin-islands on a much-deserved vacation.

With one of the youngest Boeing 737 fleets in the aviation industry, WestJet flies to more than 70 destinations in Canada, the United States of America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Boasting low fares and exceptional service, travelers to Trinidad and Tobago can expect that WestJet will provide the perfect start to their stay.

The Tourism Development Company Limited welcomes WestJet and looks forward to building a strong partnership with the airline as Trinidad and Tobago is positioned as the Caribbean destination of choice for Canadian visitors.
