A dingo has been put down after stealing a British tourist’s bag containing cash and jewelery on a New South Wales beach.

Witnesses told police they attempted to warn the 58-year-old woman that the dingo was approaching her on Jimmys Beach, north of Newcastle, last Wednesday, the ABC reports.

The animal was photographed as it disappeared into dunes carrying the bag, which contained valuable jewelery, cash and lollies.

Police found no trace of the bag or its contents.

Acting Inspector Matthew Maroney said the animal, identified by its markings, had been the subject of several complaints in recent months and had now been shot and killed.

“The offending dingo was photographed by witnesses and was clearly identified as having one leg predominantly white,” he told the ABC.

“It was established that this animal had been the subject of numerous complaints in the prior three months, jumping onto barbeques in the van park and approaching and stealing things from people.

“The offending dingo was located and euthanised with a single rifle shot.”
