Spirit flight attendants to picket nationwide during busiest travel week

WASHINGTON, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Spirit Airlines Flight Attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), will march on informational picket lines at four airports across the country November 19 – 21 as an estimated 24 million passengers take to the skies during the busy Thanksgiving travel week.

Spirit Flight Attendants continue to send a strong message to management that a fair contract is crucial and cannot be ignored. After authorizing a strike by an overwhelming 98.4 percent, Spirit Flight Attendants proved that they will do whatever it takes to get a contract that reflects their contributions to the airline. Earlier this year, AFA asked the National Mediation Board to declare that negotiations are at an impasse and are currently waiting to be released into a 30-day cooling-off period. That decision can come at any time.

“Spirit Flight Attendants have tried to work with management on reaching an agreement that reflected our role as first responders and our role in the great success of our airline. However, management continues to make regressive proposals and ignore our contributions. That must stop. Spirit Flight Attendants are an integral part of our airline and management cannot continue to rake in profits on the backs of its frontline workers,” said Todd St. Pierre, AFA president at Spirit.
