Travel Advantage Network Manager Shaves Head In Fundraising Challenge
TAN employees shave the way for the fight against alopecia
Travel Advantage Network (TAN), a US nationwide leader in wholesale vacation accommodations, found a unique way to raise awareness and funds for juvenile alopecia areata, an autoimmune disorder that causes patches of hair loss on parts of the body, usually the scalp.
TAN's Total Vacation Services Department assistant manager Steve Ogden promised to shave his head if TAN employees reached their fundraising goal of $1,000 for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation. Spurred on by the challenge, TAN employees exceeded their fundraising goal, and Ogden willingly held up his end of the bargain.
"I was happy to do it," Ogden said. "I thought what better way to raise more money than to use the hair on my head as an incentive." Ogden said the charity is near to his heart since one of TAN's employee's family members suffers from the condition. Ogden even let his hair grow for six months in anticipation of the event. "I knew TAN employees would come through," he recalled.
TAN President Brad Callahan fully supported the charity challenge. "I'm very proud of Steve and all of our TAN employees for their continuous efforts to reach out to our community and support worthy causes like this," Callahan said. "It's especially rewarding when we can rally around a family member of one of our own."
Callahan adds that each month TAN employees enthusiastically join together to raise funds for various charities. "This community commitment is a big part of what makes our TAN family unique."
In addition to juvenile alopecia areata, since January 2008, TAN employees have raised and donated thousands of dollars to help in the fight against muscular dystrophy, congenital heart defects, autism, arthritis and child hunger.

Well, there is nothing wrong with shaving your head. What is worse is when you have juvenile patches on your head and it's not a sight to behold! Congratulations to all TAN employees especially assistant manager Steve Ogden!
