Grupo Aeromexico reports 4.1 percent increase in passenger numbers

MEXICO CITY, Mexico – Grupo Aeromexico S.A.B de C.V., the largest intercontinental airline in Mexico, reports operating statistics for October, 2012.

Grupo Aeromexico transported 12 million 289 thousand passengers in the first ten months of 2012, which represents a 4.1% year-on-year increase driven by a 6.0% increase in international passenger traffic and a 3.4% increase in domestic passenger traffic. In October 2012, Grupo Aeromexico transported one million 251 thousand passengers, which represents 1.0% year-on-year growth for the month of October. Domestic passenger traffic grew 2.3% while international passenger traffic decreased 2.5% in October, partially affected by the 30 flights cancelled during October due to weather conditions on the east coast of the United States associated with Hurricane Sandy.

The Company’s demand, measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPKs), increased 4.3% and capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometers (ASKs), increased 6.5% in the first ten months of the year. Therefore, the load factor for that period was 76.7%. In October, Grupo Aeromexico’s RPKs increased 0.1% and ASKs grew 3.8%, year-on-year. As a result, the load factor for the month was 75.6%.

According to the latest report published by the DGAC (Direccion General de Aeronautica Civil โ€“ Mexico’s National Aviation Authority), in September of 2012, Grupo Aeromexico controlled 37% of the domestic market and 17% of the international market. In the first nine months of the year, Grupo Aeromexico’s overall market share was 26%, with 38% of the domestic market and 14% of the international market.

“ASKs” Available Seat Kilometers represent the number of available seats multiplied by the distance flown. This metric is an indicator of the airline’s capacity. It equals one seat offered for one kilometer, whether or not the seat is used.
“Load Factor” equals the number of passengers transported as a percentage of the number of seats offered. It is a measure of the airline’s capacity utilization. This metric takes into account the total passengers transported and total seats available in itinerary flights.
“Passengers” refers to the total number of passengers transported by the airline.
