The Tourism Trust Fund has given a grant of Ksh 12.6 million ($195,956.45 USD) to support the country’s ongoing efforts to mainstream tourism activities and diversify product offering on the coastal beach front.

The projects funded include Mombasa Boat Owners Association product enhancement and Pedal Boat Riding Services, both at the Jomo Kenyatta Public Beach in Mombasa.

TTF’s chief executive officer Dr Dan Kagagi said that the funding was part of a broader plan to support efforts in enhancing beach operations targeting tourists from the hotels.

“We want to give a chance to these groups to be able to extend cutting-edge services to the tourists, which is in line with our stated objectives of having an enhanced and diversified tourism product portfolio,” said Dr. Kagagi.

Dr. Kagagi observed that the projects were also aimed at empowering the members to use cost-effective and efficient ways of reaching out to their customers and increase their revenues, which will then improve the source of their livelihoods.

The Tourism Minister, Hon. Najib Balala, commended the Fund for its support of tourism initiatives whose impact was likely to be felt more at the grassroots level.

That is a truly commendable venture. We need people and organisations who are able to see and believe in the projects of the locals to help uplift tourism in Kenya.
