LOS ANGELES, California – Green Globe announces certification of Agape Cottages vacation apartments in Tortola, British Virgin Islands (BVI). In conjunction with the British Virgin Island Tourist Board (BVI Tourist Board), Agape Cottages owners have been working on a โ€œSustainability Pilot Program,โ€ and the property has etched its mark in the territoryโ€™s environmental movement.

โ€œBeing the first property in the British Virgin Islands to be Green Globe certified is an achievement that we are very proud of. This certification signifies that we are doing the right thing for the environment and the community. Green Globe is a tool that can help properties to become more aware by showing them ways in which they can maximize their resources,โ€ said Donna Abraira, owner of Agape Cottages, โ€œI feel itโ€™s extremely important that we take care of our God-given assets.โ€

Agape Cottages implemented a comprehensive environmental management system to continually reduce the usage of water, energy, production, and packaging materials. Energy goals are strictly monitored and benchmarked. Guests are invited to join local environmental and community-related activities, and a comprehensive communication strategy is in effect to promote the propertyโ€™s sustainability policies and initiatives. Eco-friendly and fair trade products are being purchased where possible, local suppliers are given preference. Agape Cottages has a proper waste sorting system in place, composting is done within the complex and nurtures the resortโ€™s own green garden.

The BVI is one of the Caribbeanโ€™s leading tourism destinations and the BVI Tourist Board supports Sustainable Tourism Principles. โ€œThe BVI Tourist Board takes great pride in Agape Cottagesโ€™ success, and we will continue in our efforts to improve the territoryโ€™s environmental performance. We encourage all properties in the territory to join Agape Cottages and reduce their environmental impact by implementing green practices and becoming Green Globe certified,โ€ said Natasha Chalwell, Policy and Product Development Manager with the BVI Tourist Board.

Green Globe Certificationโ€™s CEO, Guido Bauer, commented: โ€œWe are extremely pleased to award the certification to the Agape Cottages in the British Virgin Islands. This property complies with an impressive 90% against our Green Globe Certification sustainability criteria. The Agape Cottages owners are committed to educate all their business associates and suppliers to enhance awareness and integrating environmental protection into their daily routine.โ€
