All Nippon Airways on Wednesday averted an industrial action by pilots, while pilots of Japan Air Commuter, a Japan Airlines unit, entered a 48-hour strike early Wednesday morning, a move expected to affect a total of 86 regional flights mostly in western and southern Japan on Wednesday alone.
Japan Air Commuter said it would affect around 1,900 passengers on Wednesday on such routes as Osaka-Matsuyama and Fukuoka-Kagoshima. It said 54 percent of its flights are to be cancelled.

JAL said two of its pilot unions have decided to go on strike from Wednesday. The airline is not expecting any strike-related disruption on Wednesday as non-union pilots will provide backup, but some of its domestic flights may be cancelled on Thursday.

No international flights will be affected, JAL said.
