NEW DELHI, India – There was nothing typically ‘touristy’ about the 20 plus group tip-toeing around the ruins of Jamali Kamali in south Delhi in the middle of the night with torchlights, K-2 meters and packets of salt.

But they were tourists all right, spook tourists. The K-2 meters were devices for establishing contact with spirits and the salt was meant to serve as ‘spirit repellents’, just in case.

The tour, Creatures of the Night, included stops at Jamali Kamali in Mehrauli Archeological Park and Nicholson Cemetery and was organised by Delhi-based travel company Let’s Get Packing and the Indian Paranormal Society.

Gaurav Tiwari, founder of the Paranormal Society, said the cemetery was chosen as it is believed the headless apparition of John Nicholson, a British officer, roams the grounds. Nicholson was killed in the 1857 uprising.

Pooja Verma, an IT professional who took the Rs. 3,000 per head trip, said, “I smelt sandalwood near Balban’s Tomb inside the (Mehrauli) park. It was a sign.”

A doctor, who did not wish to be named, said he saw a shining rectangle near one of the mosques.

“We communicated with the spirits through K-2 meters, an electronic device. If there is a paranormal activity the light comes on,” said Tiwari.

Emboldened by the response, Arjun Sachdeva, CEO, Let’s Get Packing, is busy working on expansion plans.

“We will take this haunted tour to Bangalore, Mumbai and Kolkata,” he said.
