Ministry to reposition tourism
The Minister of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, Adetokunbo Kayode, says tourism in Nigeria will soon be repositioned in line with international best practices following a national retreat to be organised by the ministry soon.
According to the Minister, the retreat coordinated by the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG) is in line with efforts to ensure the actualisation of vision 2020 by the Federal Government.
In a chat with newsmen over the weekend in Abuja, Kayode also said tourism which government has accepted as the 6th sector of the economy, has come to be the highest and most sustainable foreign exchange earner in the world.

Some of my friends from England went to Nigeria for a Holiday. The eldest lady, got kidnapped on September 13 and is now being held for ransom. What is the Minister and the police are going go to do about that?
Unless kidnapping is treated like murder and punished by the deaath penalty, you will not get much tourism.
If we have to wait till the kidnappers get their money, this story will be published in all the world's Newspapers.
Some good friends of mine from England went to Nigeria a few weeks ago. When their holiday was up they had gone to the airport for reservations. After a diner in a restaurant, the eldest lady went outside to hail a taxi.
Four men grabbed her and drove away.
Now she is being held for ransom.
What is the Minister going to do about that?
That happened on September 13 2011.

film and other forms of the mass media can be put to profitable usefulness for this repositioning of the tourism sector. the major stakeholders should consider this seriously!
I believe there is a resource in Lagos which, if utilized correctly, could increase tourism to Nigeria and this state. Ghana is currently utilizing this resource with success, as are other African countries, including South Africa and Mozambique. Please contact me if you would like to discuss this in more detail. Regards.

How may I be of help? I am one of the few Nigerians that sees so much potential in Nigeria's tourism industry and just gotten a degree studying international tourism at 1 of the top tourist locations in the Uk, Brighton. I've left my email address for you to contact me if you recquire any assistance in your 2020 projects.
Best wishes
my own comment is based on the fact that the minister of culture and tourism should find a way of encouraging domestic tourism in Nigeria because people in Nigeria are travelling out on tourism while we have variety of tourist sites that can be developed in Nigeria. in my own opinion, people from abroad should be encouraged to come rather than more nigerians going there on tourism. i do appreciate the efforts of the government but i believe they can do better. thanks
