Ministry to reposition tourism

Jun 16, 2008

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, Adetokunbo Kayode, says tourism in Nigeria will soon be repositioned in line with international best practices following a national retreat to be organised by the ministry soon.

According to the Minister, the retreat coordinated by the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG) is in line with efforts to ensure the actualisation of vision 2020 by the Federal Government.

In a chat with newsmen over the weekend in Abuja, Kayode also said tourism which government has accepted as the 6th sector of the economy, has come to be the highest and most sustainable foreign exchange earner in the world.

I believe there is a resource in Lagos which, if utilized correctly, could increase tourism to Nigeria and this state. Ghana is currently utilizing this resource with success, as are other African countries, including South Africa and Mozambique. Please contact me if you would like to discuss this in more detail. Regards.

How may I be of help? I am one of the few Nigerians that sees so much potential in Nigeria's tourism industry and just gotten a degree studying international tourism at 1 of the top tourist locations in the Uk, Brighton. I've left my email address for you to contact me if you recquire any assistance in your 2020 projects.
Best wishes

my own comment is based on the fact that the minister of culture and tourism should find a way of encouraging domestic tourism in Nigeria because people in Nigeria are travelling out on tourism while we have variety of tourist sites that can be developed in Nigeria. in my own opinion, people from abroad should be encouraged to come rather than more nigerians going there on tourism. i do appreciate the efforts of the government but i believe they can do better. thanks
