The main building of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) has been chosen as the best eco-friendly projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by the 2nd Saudi Arabia Building and Infrastructure Summit (SABIS-2012) recently held in Riyadh, said Eng. Abdul Mohsin Abanami, Director General of Engineering and Supportive Services at SCTA.

The blue-glassed headquarters of SCTA, which is located in the Diplomatic Quarters in Riyadh, was chosen because its design observes all the aspects of sustainable environmental standards, added Eng. Abanami.

The headquarters of SCTA comprises three buildings of different sizes. The buildingโ€™s backyard – 40 percent of the building total area – includes gardens and services containing a number of palm trees, shading shrubs, and a pond in its center, which confers a breathtaking view.

It is easy to note that the buildingโ€™s design has taken into account a number of sustainable environmental standards, including the buildingโ€™s ability to save power by utilizing solar light as a better economical solution to electricity consumption.

All the three buildings have internal courtyards that include different kinds of shade plants for air purification and ventilation. A sloping Armstrong ceiling – beginning from the windows to the buildingโ€™s center – allows floodlight to engulf offices and corridors inside the building, besides limiting the use of electricity.
The roofs of the three buildings are covered with special layers to reduce emission gases into the building, and this design is a model of sustainable buildings in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Noteworthy, the building of SCTA is considered as the iconic building in its aesthetic design and form, which is located in the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh, built on an area in excess of 17 thousand square meters, and is designed by an international constructing firm – Croxton Collaborative Architecture – and Saud Consult, a national Saudi advisory firm.

SABISโ€™ awards are aimed at construction and infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, which is judged by a jury of experts and specialists, honoring the outstanding efforts of the companies that contributed to the infrastructure and real estate development in the Kingdom.
