The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Center (SCEC) has won the World Travel Award for Australasia’s Leading Conference Center for the third consecutive year. Announced at the World Travel Awards in Sydney last night at the Observatory Hotel, the World Travel Awards are voted on by travel professionals around the globe.

The Center was chosen from a field of six finalists, including conference centers in Auckland, Cairns, Melbourne and Wellington, as well as The Langham Hotel Auckland.

SCEC chief executive Ton van Amerongen expressed the Center's pride in having won the award for the third time when he said, “I am very proud to head a team of dedicated and professional people, who are committed to achieving quality in everything they do. This award recognizes the quality of their work as they continually exceed clients’ expectations and set new benchmarks for our industry.”

He went on to say that the award flagged up Sydney’s leadership in the business events arena, confirmed by the recent 2007 International Congress & Convention Association rankings (Sydney placed as the number one city in Australia for conventions).

The Center plays a major role in Sydney’s meeting calendar, hosting large events such as the 2007 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum. It will also be the venue for Sydney’s newest event win, the 2013 World Conference on Lung Cancer, expecting to attract 8,000 delegates.

Ton van Amerongen ended by saying, “Sydney is an exceptionally appealing and professional city. In an increasingly competitive environment, we continue to work hard to win our business and please our clients.”
