Aeromexico reports 6.6 percent increase in passenger numbers
MEXICO CITY, Mexico - Grupo Aeromexico S.A.B de C.V., the largest intercontinental airline in Mexico, reports operating statistics for May, 2012.
Grupo Aeromexico transported one million 225 thousand passengers in May 2012, maintaining the previous year's number for the month of May. International passenger traffic grew 3.6% and domestic passenger traffic decreased by 1.2%. The total number of passengers in the first five months of 2012 reached five million 940 thousand; a 6.6% year-on-year increase, with a 12% increase in international passenger traffic and 5% increase in domestic passenger traffic.
Grupo Aeromexico's demand, measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPK's), increased 2.5%, and capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometers (ASK's), grew 8.4% year-on-year in May. As a result, the load factor for the month was 75.9%.
The Company's ASKs increased 6.5% and RPKs increased 6.6% in the first five months of the year. Therefore, the load factor was 76.7%.

According to the latest report published by the DGAC (Direccion General de Aeronautica Civil – Mexico's National Aviation Authority), in April, Grupo Aeromexico controlled 37% of the domestic market and 13% of the international market for 2012. In the first four months of the year, Grupo Aeromexico's overall market share increased 1 percentage point to a total of 25%, with 40% of the domestic market and 13% of the international market.

"ASKs" Available Seat Kilometers represent the number of available seats multiplied by the distance flown. This metric is an indicator of the airline's capacity. It equals one seat offered for one kilometer, whether or not the seat is used.
"Load Factor" equals the number of passengers transported as a percentage of the number of seats offered. It is a measure of the airline's capacity utilization. This metric takes into account the total passengers transported and total seats available in itinerary flights.
"Passengers" refers to the total number of passengers transported by the airline.
