US citizens say that they were detained and harassed by Israeli Shin Bet security upon arrival at Ben Gurion Airport. US tourists were interrogated, given body searches, photographed, and their bags were searched meticulously.
Shin Bet agents also demanded access to tourists’ personal email accounts and then read through every email and recorded a number of tourists’ personal contacts’ names, emails and telephone numbers.
Haaretz.com reports that after five hours of questioning, US tourists were forced to wait another three hours, after which they were told that they would be refused entry into Israel. The tourists spent the night in a detention facility at Ben Gurion Airport and were deported some 14 hours after landing in Israel.
