Manchester enjoying tourist boom thanks to football

LONDON, England – Manchester is enjoying a tourist boom thanks partly to the neck-and-neck struggle for the Premier League title involving the city’s two football clubs.

With last week’s Manchester City-Manchester United match lifting the city’s profile, there has been a huge 168% increase in internet searches for Manchester hotels.

This is far higher than the increase in interest in hotels in other football-linked cities in Europe, figures from Hotels.com revealed.

Valencia is up 121%, Milan rose 107%, Barcelona is up 105%, Madrid increased 98% and Munich is up 85%.

Manchester is also benefiting from the comeback gigs of rock band Stone Roses, to be held in the city’s Heaton Park on June 29 and 30.

Nigel Pocklington, from Hotels.com, said: “With demand in hotels rapidly growing, all eyes are on Manchester at the moment. With so much happening across the city we expect the popularity to keep growing over the next few months.”
