Bahrain reaffirms commitment to religious freedom

MANAMA, Bahrain – Bahrain’s King, His Majesty Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, met with 16 Bahraini priests and ministers today and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to religious freedom.

MANAMA, Bahrain – Bahrain’s King, His Majesty Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, met with 16 Bahraini priests and ministers today and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to religious freedom.

His Majesty King Hamad praised the churches’ roles in the community and thanked the leaders for their efforts to promote tolerance in the country. He expressed hope that the churches will continue to further peace and understanding in Bahrain and facilitate intercultural dialogue.

In return, the priests and ministers thanked His Majesty the King for the security to practice religion of all forms in Bahrain. They also noted the community’s acceptance of Christianity in Bahrain.

Bahrain has long supported religious tolerance and is home to Muslims, Christians, Jews and Hindus. Along with the country’s mosques, Bahrain also has 19 registered Churches, a synagogue, Hindu temples and several other places of worship.
