Sustainable Parisian Grand Hotel
Hotel du Louvre in Paris earns certification from Green Globe
LOS ANGELES, California - Green Globe announced certification of Hotel du Louvre in Paris, France. As a member of Concorde Hotels & Resorts, this Parisian Grand Hotel works to preserve historical and architectural heritage, protect the environment, and ensure the safety and health of employees.
Alessandro Cresta, General Manager of the Hôtel du Louvre, stated: “Obtaining the highly-renowned Green Globe Certification is an important milestone for us. It showcases that it is possible for a five-star hotel to offer luxury in a sustainable context, enriching the client’s experience and comfort while enforcing environmental and social policies.”
The hotel has an extensive waste management and separation plan in place, and sorts and recycles waste in all public and private areas of the hotel. It reduced the use of dangerous substances and uses eco-labeled cleaning products. Using the diagnostic tool, “Bilan Carbone,” the hotel also constantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, it keeps hotel stocks at efficient levels with a well-planned schedule of deliveries of food and other goods.
In addition, as a member of Concorde Hotels & Resorts, a firm part of the hotel’s business strategy is transparent communication with customers, partners, employees, and shareholders in all business areas. Suppliers are expected to adhere to the hotel’s responsible purchasing charter, considering container materials, sources of raw materials, organic products, eco-certification, and low energy consumption, as well as recyclable packaging.
Green Globe Certification’s CEO, Guido Bauer, said: “We are happy to award the Hotel du Louvre with Green Globe Certification. The hotel rises in the very heart of the ‘Paris of arts and cultures.’ With about 42 million tourists annually in the city and its suburbs, Paris is the most visited city in the world, and contains 3,800 historical monuments.
“Each of the hotel’s four facades looks out on an emblematic monument of Paris: the Louvre Museum, Opera Garnier, the state theater target="_blank">Comédie Française, and the target="_blank">Palais Royal, which was built in 1639. This district of Paris is particularly rich in history, and the hotel’s second empire style is also reflected in the surrounding buildings.”
Built in 1855 and originally located in the building which is now known as the Louvre des Antiquaires, the Grand Hôtel du Louvre was the first luxury hotel in France. It was a grand hotel with 700 guestrooms and a large staff of 1,250. Renowned for its French and international cuisine, it was the first hotel to achieve recognition equal to its luxurious counterparts in New York and Switzerland.
