(eTN) – Tourists and business travelers in ten African countries can now enjoy quick and substantial roaming savings while traveling from one country to another through free incoming calls to be shared by leading mobile service providers in Africa.

Through free incoming calls while roaming in Western, Eastern and Southern African states, tourists and other travelers can now use their mobile phones easily and cheaply to communicate in respective countries without much hurdles.

Countries falling under this communication program that was announced in Tanzaniaโ€™s capital of Dar es Salaam are South Africa, Lesotho, DRC Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda Burundi and Tanzania.

This communication program was launched by Vodacom, a leading mobile phone company operating in Eastern and Southern Africa jointly with partner mobile phone companies in the continent.

Countries included in this program are Tanzania, South Africa Mozambique, Lesotho and DRC Congo; all using Vodacom as a mobile phone service provider, Ghana (Vodafone), Kenya (Safaricom), Rwanda (MTN), Uganda (MTN and UTL) and Burundi (UCOM) networks.

Commenting on the new Africa roaming service, Rene Meza, Managing Director of Vodacom Tanzania said, โ€œWe know that people want to remain connected at an affordable rate whether they are at home or on holiday in South Africa or travelling for work in Ghana and that nobody likes the headache of worrying about roaming billsโ€.

โ€œWhat weโ€™re launching today is a solution to give our customers peace of mind when travellingโ€, Meza said.

โ€œData roaming has been and still is an expensive undertaking for most operators and today we are so proud to reduce substantially together with voice and SMS our data roaming charges for our customers travelling in any of our African familyโ€, added Meza.
