Oman's drive to boost tourism
Oman aims to attract 12 million visitors before 2020
MUSCAT, Oman — Two tenders worth RO 24 million were awarded this month by the Tender Board for the construction of Khasab Hotel in the Governorate of Musandam and a hotel in Jabal al Akhdar. The two hotels will be developed by Omran as the government’s tourism development and investment arm continues to bring memorable destinations and experiences for residents and visitors.
Commenting on the unified vision shared by the government, the Tender Board and Omran, Nasser bin Khamis al Jashmi, Chairman of Omran said: “With the nation’s drive to boost tourism by attracting 12 million visitors before 2020, it is crucial that we build sufficient infrastructure to ensure that additional hospitality venues are available at key destinations outside Muscat to meet the anticipated growth.
“Both Khasab and Jabal al Akhdar are witnessing an increasing number of tourists who would like to explore the hidden treasures of the Sultanate. Providing quality hotels, value added services and appointing the right partners will ultimately result in bringing these new projects to life and identifying opportunities that will support the long-term strategy of the Sultanate’s tourism sector.”
The Khasab Hotel is planned to be situated near the centre of town and the local port on a reclaimed peninsula designated for tourism and commercial developments. The site will overlook the sea and will feature 110 guest rooms including, suites, studios and duplexes, in addition to studio rooms for people with special needs.
“As with many of our projects, we will ensure that both properties strongly reflect various aspects of the Omani architecture while bringing the best in modern hospitality. This will add a more enjoyable experience for tourists through meaningful connections with local people, and a greater understanding of local cultural and environmental sensibilities,” he added.
Operated by Singapore-based hotel chain, Alila, the hotel in Jabal al Akhdar is envisioned to become a luxury hotel and spa and will feature 86 suites and a world-class spa, along with a cliff side restaurant and pool. He further added that Omran strongly believes in not limiting developments to the capital area but to reach out and encourage tourists to enjoy the various unique landscapes and characteristics the Sultanate boasts.
Two upcoming developments that are scheduled to open in 2012, Duqm Crowne Plaza Hotel and Duqm City Hotel, serve as examples of the company’s approach to tourism development.
