TRI welcomes respected tourism representative to its board

The well-known personality of the travel media world, Mr. Juergen Thomas Steinmetz, has accepted a request from the The Region Initiative (TRI) to become a member of their board, effective January 1, 2012. The Region Initiative (TRI) is a tri-regional umbrella of tourism-related organizations. TRI is functioning as a link between three regions - South Asia, Central Asia, and Eastern Europe.
Mr. Steinmetz has continuously worked in the travel and tourism industry since a teenager in Germany, first as a travel agent and now as a publisher for one of the world's most influential and most-read travel and tourism publications.
Born on December 9, 1957, Thomas can be considered as a wandering soul. His experiences include working and collaborating with various national tourism offices and non-governmental organizations, as well as private and non-profit organizations in planning, implementing, and quality control of a range of travel and tourism-related activities and programs including tourism policies and legislation. His major strengths include his vast knowledge of travel and tourism from the point of view of a successful private enterprise owner, along with superb networking skills, strong leadership, excellent communication skills, strong team commitment, attention to detail, dutiful respect for compliance in all regulated environment, and advisory skills in both political and non-political arenas with respect to tourism programs, policies, and legislation.
Mr. Steinmetz is also the Chairman of the International Council of Tourism Partners (ICTP), a new grassroots travel and tourism coalition of global destinations committed to quality service and green growth, and he is also President of the Hawaii Tourism Association (HITA), which serves as a discussion forum for issues affecting industry members interested in doing business in Hawaii, while also working with new markets and regions expressing interest in visiting the islands.
