(eTN) - Dr. Phumuzile Thobokwe of the Botswana National Productivity Centre (BNPC) told a meeting in Maun that Botswana’s tourism and travel industry went down 12 positions in the global competitiveness rankings between 2009 and 2011. She said that this was costing the country - in 2008, there would have been an additional 300,000 tourists who would have spent P600 million in the country.

Kevin Hughes from the Human Resource Development Advisory Council (HRDAC) said the country fell in its rankings mainly because of poor work ethic.

The plan, therefore, is to introduce tailor-made solutions to help the tourism sector achieve maximum growth.

According to the BNPC website: "The statutory mandate of the BNPC is to enhance the level of productivity awareness as an advocacy function and to enable individuals and organizations through training and consulting to be productive and competitive."
