Around 80 to 90 per cent of hotels in India do not come forward for accreditation despite Government of India's efforts to make them do so. This information was provided by Subodh Kant Sahai, Minister of Tourism (MoT), Government of India while speaking at the first India Heritage Tourism Conclave in New Delhi recently. The MoT was reacting to complaints about the lack of cleanliness and hygiene in hotels, which is a big put-off for international visitors

Sahai, who came to inaugurate the event, went back with an earful of woes from aggrieved tour operators and travel agents deciding to give him a reality check, a cording to a report in India Today. The inaugural session of the conclave, which was organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), was followed by an interactive session where participants were given an opportunity to interact with the MoT.
