DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania (eTN) – Looking at wooing more tourists from key markets, Tanzania will be marketing tourism in Europe, North America, Far East and other key tourist sources through its foreign missions and diplomats accredited in respective nations.

Through economic diplomacy, Tanzania will be publicizing tourist attractions available within its boundaries, services offered to foreign visitors and investment opportunities available in tourist industry.

Foreign Minister Bernard Membe said more emphasis will be in place, focusing at making Tanzania’s tourist attractions be known in nations where this East African nation has diplomatic missions and consulates.

Minister Membe said plans are underway to broaden Tanzanian representation abroad by increasing embassies from the current 32 to 50 in next nine years, to enhance the economic diplomacy.

The minister took around ambassadors and high commissioners on duty of tour in Tanzania to see for themselves the tourist attractions in northern Tanzania and the Indian Beaches of Zanzibar as a strategy to expose them to Tanzania’s premier attractions.

When launching celebration of the 50 years of Tanzania independence, similarly Foreign Policy, Membe said his ministry will be working on and propagating Tanzania’s image to foreign investors and tourists with expectations to attract them to visit and invest here.

Given the economic and socio-political shift that has occurred in the domestic and international scene, Tanzania adopted a Foreign Policy focusing on economic diplomacy to secure the core national interest as a sovereign state.

The policy manifests itself in active international engagement, which is basically leveraged upon the pursuit of economic objectives, while at the same time preserving the gains of the past and consolidating the fundamental principles of Tanzania’s traditional foreign policy.

Tanzania Ministry of Foreign Affairs arranged a trip for high diplomats accredited to Tanzania’s leading tourist attractive sites including Serengeti National Park, pre-history sites of Olduvai and Laetoli, and the famous Ngorongoro Crater.
