Sierra Leone wants Russian tourists

MOSCOW, Russia — “The development of the tourist industry of a nation is the sure way to plan for the economic prosperity of a country,” declared Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Russia, Mr. John Sahr Yambasu in Moscow recently.

Ambassador Yambasu pointed out that there is everything in tourism, adding that the best economy of a country could be derived from the economic development of a nation. Speaking with his counterpart from Burundi, Ambassador Yambasu was pleased to learn about the touristic development of Burundi by a tourist agency called Kilimanjaro. The Ambassador observed that Kilimanjaro Tourist Agency has been catering for Russian tourists who are interested in spending their winter in Burundi. In addition to their operations in Burundi, these tour operators are also operating in Senegal, with the intention of creating a new destination in Sierra Leone.

Ambassador Yambasu was pleased to learn that a group of journalists, working for the film industry in Burundi, have been shooting films on important places in Burundi. The Ambassador was also informed by his counterpart, that a group of journalist called “Planet” would also help to sell Sierra Leone to the tourist industry within the Russian Federation.

“Sierra Leone,” the Ambassador went on, “is interested in organizing tourism around its wild life, beautiful beaches and other important places in Sierra Leone.”

In his presentation, the Ambassador of Burundi, Mr. Ruzoviyo stressed the need for bilateral cooperation between the development of the two countries. The Ambassador noted that the Kilimanjaro tour operators have been catering for Russian tourists interested in holidaying in Burundi and Senegal during of months of November and December.

In another development Ambassador Yambasu received in audience, his counterpart from the Republic of Guinea Mr. Mohamed Keita at the chancery in Moscow, Russia. Ambassador Yambasu stressed the need to strengthen relationship between Guinea and Sierra Leone, pointing out that there is excellent understanding between the Leaders of Sierra Leone, His Excellency the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and the President of the Republic of Guinea Professor Alpha Conde.

Ambassador Yambasu pointed out that the Sierra Leoneans and Guineans are the same people and must look at issues that unite us as opposed to the issues that would put us apart.

He observed that issue such as Yenga should not worry us as this matter will soon be resolved in an amicable way.

The Ambassador spoke about the exploration of oil in Sierra Leone, adding that Sierra Leone have recently concluded an agreement that will pave the way for the drilling of oil in Sierra Leone. He further expressed his satisfaction that Rusal, the world’s largest producer of aluminum will also be working in Sierra Leone with advanced efficient and environmentally friendly aluminum production facilities.

The Guinean Ambassador was pleased to learn that Rusal has been working in the processing of aluminum and Bauxite for quite some time now and there is a lot that we can learn from each other as countries belonging to the Mano River Union in West Africa.

The meeting was attended by the Head of Chancery of Sierra Leone Embassy, Mr. John Bobor Laggah and the First Secretary, Mr. Henry Nyandemoh.
