Luanda, Angola, 19 May – The commercial director of Angolan airline TAAG, José Venâncio, told newspaper Jornal de Angola that by the end of the year the company would open up flights to China.

Noting that currently the necessary processes were taking place with the Chinese authorities, Venâncio said that opening up a route to China was justified not only because of common interests between the two countries, but also because there were a lot of potential passengers for the route.

After China, TAAG wants to continue operating in Africa, and plans to fly to Libreville, Malabo and Cotonou.

Venâncio also said that TAAG would incraese its number of flights to Brazil, which may rise from three to four or five per week.

The company is also looking at the possibility of alternating between the route to Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, from which most of its passengers originate.

TAAG expects to have transported 490,358 domestic passengers by the end of the year and exceed its 2007 revenue of around US$370 million.

On a regional level, estimated traffic is of 180,398 passengers, which intercontinental passengers total an estimated 274,346 passengers.
