Blue Flag awards that are handed out every year by the Environmental Education Foundation of Turkey (TÜRÇEV) depending on cleanliness of the water, environmental concerns, security, safety and services at beaches and marinas.

Blue Flag awards that are handed out every year by the Environmental Education Foundation of Turkey (TÜRÇEV) depending on cleanliness of the water, environmental concerns, security, safety and services at beaches and marinas. Antalya received the most number of awards with 127 Blue Flags followed by 47 beaches, marinas and coastlines in Muğla and 29 in Bodrum Blue flag, which is an international eco-label in the field of environmental and human health, is the symbol of trustworthy waters on five continents and 41 countries in the world. 2,599 beaches and 644 marinas all around the world had a Blue Flag in 2006 and 194 beaches and 14 marinas had this flag in Turkey.

235 beaches and 14 marinas deserved to receive the Blue Flag award this year in Turkey. Turkey now ranks fifth among the countries with Blue Flag awards, up two places from where it was last year.

TÜRÇEV President Ali Rendan said the award showed the importance attached to environmental protection and was a tool for international promotion as well as being an international eco-label. “Local administrations and accommodation facilities have a responsibility to increase the number of Blue Flags awarded and keep the current ones in our country.”
