Lack Of Visitor Knowledge Prompts Tas Tourism Re-think
Tasmania: Everybody knows Tasmanian Devil. But that's about it...
The Tasmanian Government will change its marketing strategy after discovering tourists don't know much about the state's attractions.
Tourism Tasmania will promote the state in five zones: Launceston and the Tamar Valley; the North West Coast; the Western Wilderness; the East Coast; and Hobart and Surrounds.
Tourism Tasmania's Chief Executive, Felicia Mariani, says a recent survey of 2,500 people in different states found they didn't know about tourism attractions outside the main cities.
"One of the biggest barriers that we've found we've had was in fact people didn't really understand the depth and dimension of what we had on offer in Tasmania.
"They had a general knowledge, particularly knew about clean, green nature, we've done that really well.
"But beyond that they were struggling to understand the depth of what they would find when they travelled around the island," said Ms Mariani.
