Nationals promoting tourism
Seychelles supports Hawaii's move to engagage tourism ambassadors
The Seychelles Tourism Board has applauded the Hawaii Tourism Association (HiTA) in its move to appoint tourism ambassadors. Alain St.Ange, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, said when he saw news of the appointment of Jorge Gonzales Carling and Juliana Osorio as Hawaii's latest tourism ambassadors appointed in Colombia, which follows the recent appointment of Patrick Wong from Singapore, that he welcomed this appointment by Hawaii.
Serious tourism destinations need to be better prepared to promote themselves in the world. "There is no better way than to empower nationals from our respective countries to be mandated to spread the good news about our respective countries. Our people know their own countries and will sell with their heart," said Alain St.Ange.
Seychelles was the first country to launch this Tourism Ambassadors program over a year ago, and they now have well over one hundred of their nationals in over 33 countries right accross the world. Alain St.Ange, who was personally behing the creation of the Tourism Ambassadors scheme, said that the program works, and that it is time for the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to look at this program and stand behind it as it does one thing - consolidates the tourism industry by nationals from countries who are serious about their tourism industry.
"The UK launched a program for their Trade Ambassadors, the Seychelles has it's Tourism Ambassadors, and now Hawaii is joining forces to make this tourism program more known and recognized. We are all pushing our own wheel barrow up the hill to fetch our fair share of the market we deem important for our respective country. A UNWTO recognition of this program will go a long way to give more credibility to what could be an innovative approach in marketing tourism," said Alain St.Ange.
HiTA President Juergen Thomas Steinmetz has said that Hawaii was proud to appoint their second global ambassador in Colombia. Colombia is a niche market for Hawaii with great potential. "Jorge and Juliana have been dedicated and have worked tirelessly to develop their exclusive Hawaii tour program," said Steinmetz.
Seychelles and Hawaii are now joint and innovative leaders in pushing forward the tourism ambassadors program.
