Follow-up tourism meeting held on La Digue in Seychelles
Minister Joel Morgan, the Seychelles Minister for Internal Affairs, accompanied by Alain St.Ange, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, joined Louis D'Offay, the Chairman of the Seychelles Hospitality & Tourism Association (SHTA), to chair a tourism meeting on the island of La Digue.
Tourism operators rallied at Chateau St.Cloud Hotel at La Digue to meet with Minister Morgan and his delegation who traveled to the island for a follow-up meeting to the one held four weeks ago, which was jointly chaired by Barry Faure, the Secretary of State in the President's Office, and Alain St.Ange of the Seychelles Tourism Board. The La Digue tourism industry heard Minister Joel Morgan explain the undertaking of the government to ensure that La Digue remained the island where harmony and the unique island feeling is protected. The increase of a police presence, the introduction of a fire brigade, and the presence of the NDEA (Drug Squad) were listed as measures to be implemented. Minister Morgan also proposed that such meetings will now be organized every four to six months.
Minister Joel Morgan was also accompanied to La Digue by the Commissioner of Police and other senior officers from the Seychelles police, the PS of the Ministry of Environment, and other senior officers from his ministry.
Alain St.Ange and Louis D'Offay were responsible for organizing the La Digue meeting and spoke about the need to organize the La Digue tourism players with a committee to ensure that both the Tourism Board and their industry's association were regularly updated on the happenings on La Digue and observations on the needs of La Digue. Alain St.Ange reminded those at the meeting that the Seychelles tourism industry remains the pillar of the Seychelles economy.
"Our tourism industry belongs to every Seychellois, and we must all work together to protect it, and also to consolidate it for the future," Alain St.Ange said. Louis D'Offay, on his part, congratulated the La Digue industry players for working together for the wellbeing of their industry and assured them of their association's continued support.
