EU and US to begin talks about airline takeover rules

LONDON - The European Union and United States will begin talks this week to pave the way for a wave of transatlantic airline takeovers, according to a report.

EU negotiators will urge their U.S. counterparts to press ahead with the creation of a comprehensive open aviation area between the EU and the United States, The Sunday Telegraph reported.

Although an open skies deal liberalising air services between the two continents came into effect in March, restrictions remain on the ability of European airlines to take over U.S. rivals and vice versa.
