Margalla Tourist Train launched

Upon culminating around 2-hour journey in which she visited approximately all the landmarks of the city, Noor said she was really happy and planning another tour but with her friends once again on next Saturday.

Noor was among one of the about 35 passengers of the Margalla Tourist Train including Chairman Capital Development Authority Imtiaz Inayat Elahi, who had earlier inaugurated the mini train amid a colourful ceremony.

Talking to the reporters on the occasion, Imtiaz said the basic objective of the launching of the Margalla Tourist Train worth Rs36 million was to entertain the visitors to the Federal Capital as well as twin cities recreation seekers. He said tourist train will start its journey from Rose & Jasmine Garden with a speed of 20 to 25 kilometres per hours and will cover different landmarks of the city including Kashmir Highway, National Monument, Zero Point, Faisal Mosque, Zoo, Japanese Park (stop-over for 30 minutes), Said Pur Village, Jinnah Super Market, 7th Avenue and Fatima Jinnah Park (F-9 Park) and after covering these sites the train will reach to its final destination at Rose & Jasmine Garden within the stipulated time.

The fare of train for adults was Rs200 and for children Rs150 (up to 10 years). Special concession would be extended for the disables. During the first month of train service, CDA has offered 50 per cent discount for the people boarding the train, he added.

CDA has also announced special tourist package in which refreshment will also be served during 30-minute stay in the Japanese Park.

Mini train will run once a day on the approved routes. Armed security guards with metal detectors will also be deputed on the train for the safety purpose.
Tourists will also enjoy street performance and photo shoot at mid point with on board quiz for children at the end of journey about the Capital city and tourist sites so as to enhance the knowledge of children. CDA has also established stall where tourists would be able to buy key chains, t-shirts, ballpoints, caps and cups etc. Timing of tourist train operation for tourists during the summer season are 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., while on Sunday the timing would be 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

During winter season the train will operate from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 pm), during the month of holly Ramzan the train will operate from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
