Carnaval International de Victoria

Tanzania shows support for Seychelles carnival

Jul 31, 2011

The Zanzibar Tanzania Minister responsible for Information, Culture, Tourism, and Sports, Mr. Jihad Abdillah Hassan, joined foreign diplomats from the world over accredited in Tanzania, tour operators, and airline representatives for a Seychelles evening to hear about the island's "Carnaval International de Victoria" and to witness the launch of the book "SEYCHELLES, Enters the World of Carnival" in Africa.

The evening, organized in the picturesque Slipway venue in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, by Mrs. Maria Pool, the Seychelles Consul and Tourism Ambassador in Tanzania, saw the presence of Alain St.Ange, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, who is also the author of the book "SEYCHELLES, Enters the World of Carnival."

The venue was decorated by colorful billboards of pictures of the Seychelles March 2011 Carnival and of the "SEYCHELLES, Enters the World of Carnivals" book cover. Guests were overtaken by the lively pictures that depicted the vibrant and excellent 2011 Seychelles Carnival. The colors and the cultural mix at the Seychelles Carnival raised many inquiries, as the pictures depicted the Brazilian, Indian, Indonesian, British, French, and African delegations joining in with the Seychelles' own delegations at the island's last carnival held in March this year in Victoria, the capital of the Seychelles.

Maria Pool, who opened the formal part of the evening, said that she was thankful for the response by Minister Jihad Abdillah Hassan and his delegation, which included Mr. Hamad Mshindo, the Commissioner for Culture in Zanzibar, and Mr. Ali Khalil Mirza, the Director General of the Commission of Tourism for Zanzibar Tanzania. Maria Pool also thanked the gathered diplomats for their friendship and support. "You are friends of our islands and you are always ready to show your support by being with us when we have a manifestation or meeting. We value your support and friendship, and we hope that our Seychelles remains always dear to you as it is to us, the Seychellois nation," Maria Pool said.

Alain St.Ange said when he took the podium that he could be taking time to talk about the beauty of the island; the pristine state of its environment; the diversity of the islands itself; the perfect white sandy beaches and turquoise blue seas; the Immigration Policy of Friends of All and Enemies of None, which makes Seychelles the country where no one requires a visa to enter; and the blessing of being disease free with no malaria or yellow fever; but he said that everyone already knew these unique attributes of the Seychelles. Mr. St.Ange then said that he could take time to talk about the economic reform program undertaken by Seychelles with the support of the IMF and the World Bank, or the drive by the Seychelles government to showcase good governance at all times, but this also he said that everyone was already well briefed on such matters.

"Today we are here to talk about the Seychelles 'Carnaval International de Victoria' and why this event staged in Seychelles should be the Carnival for Africa as it can be the Carnival for Europe, for Asia, for Australasia, and for the Americas. Seychelles is but the host country for an event where the Community of Nations is invited to showcase their own people, their own culture, and their own achievements. Join us and participate in the unique carnival now called right across the world as the one and only carnival of carnivals because the best carnivals of the world are all represented by spectacular delegations, and they parade alongside cultural groups from the Community of Nations in Victoria, the Capital City considered the safest in the world," Alain St.Ange said.

Minister Jihad Abdillah Hassan, the Minister responsible for Information, Culture, Tourism, and Sports, who launched the "SEYCHELLES, Enters the World of Carnival" book, said that he personally led a delegation along with the 2nd Vice President of Zanzibar Tanzania to Seychelles for the island's carnival, and he said that he valued the effort being made by Seychelles to offer to the world an event when everyone could showcase their own culture and people. "I am today appealing to Africa to stand behind Seychelles and participate in this unique carnival of carnivals," Minister Jihad Abdillah Hassan said.

Alain St.Ange then signed a copy of his book and offered it to Minister Jihad Abdillah Hassan to the acclamation of all the gathered diplomats and tourism trade representatives. The signing of a first copy of the book is being delivered to the President of Tanzania.
