RWANDAIR ADDS MORE FREQUENCIES TO NAIROBI AND JOHANNESBURG

RwandAirโ€™s Commercial Director Alice Katiti has confirmed that effective July 1, the national airline of Rwanda will add a third daily flight between Kigali and Nairobi, operating at either 11:00 am or 8:45 pm, depending on traffic days. The daily 7:00 am and 4:00 pm departures remain unchanged, but travelers will now have an added option to either fly late morning or in the evening.

Johannesburg will also get a fourth weekly flight effective the beginning of July using the B737-500, while the airlineโ€™s domestic destination Gisenyi will move to 6 flights a week, on that route using a Dash-8 aircraft.

She also confirmed that effective August, when the airline is expected to receive their first of two brand new B737-800 aircraft, a fifth weekly flight between Kigali and Dar es Salaam via Arusha/Kilimanjaro International will be added and that due to demand, the equipment was upgraded from the previously used CRJ 200 to the B737.

The two NG B737-800s will be deployed on the routes between Kigali to Johannesburg and Dubai but are also expected to make appearance in the West African destinations of Brazzaville and Libreville.

ETHIOPIAN NOW CONNECTS MALAKAL WITH THE WORLD

It was learned over the weekend that Ethiopian Airlines (ET) has commenced flights to the Southern Sudanese city of Malakal, bringing reliable international air connections to this part of the soon-to-be-independent South Sudan for the first time, although domestic operations from Malakal to Juba have been in place for some time now by feeder airlines and other local Southern Sudanese air operators. This is the second destination in Southern Sudan after the capital Juba to which Ethiopian has now been flying for over 5 years already.

However, Ethiopianโ€™s new route will now connect Malakal area residents nonstop to Addis Ababa and from there with the rest of the world via ETโ€™s extensive international network and also permits visitors to this part of the South Sudan to fly there without having to travel through other airports first.

The new flights will initially operate every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and bring ETโ€™s destinations to 62 overall.
