FORT WORTH, Texas - American Airlines and future oneworld® alliance member, airberlin, have expanded their codeshare relationship to include airberlin's new service between New York's Kennedy International Airport and Berlin-Tegel. airberlin will fly the route four times per week.

Global distribution systems will display the flights today for travel starting this Friday, June 24. With the addition of this new flight, the codeshare agreement between American and airberlin now encompasses the entire U.S. network of the second largest German carrier. airberlin launched its nonstop service - which operates Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays - between JFK and Berlin on May 1.

Ulf Huttmeyer, Chief Financial Officer airberlin, said, "The U.S. is an increasingly important market for airberlin with 26 weekly nonstop flights from our two German gateways, Berlin and Dusseldorf. The codeshare agreement with American Airlines will help airberlin to further strengthen our position in that growing market and allow airberlin passengers to make use of the extensive American Airlines network. We look forward to intensifying our partnership with American Airlines and signing more codeshares in the future."

"airberlin is a valuable partner, and this new service will link American's JFK cornerstone with Germany's capital and airberlin's home base," said Virasb Vahidi, American's Chief Commercial Officer.

American and airberlin have been codesharing since November 2010 on several trans-Atlantic, as well as U.S. domestic and intra-European flights.
