Top breakfast TV show entices Australians to visit Ireland

Jun 19, 2011

A top breakfast TV show is broadcasting live from Belfast to more than a million people around Australia.

Today's weather presenter Emma Freeman will entice Aussie holidaymakers to come to visit Ireland, as she delivers live weather bulletins from various locations across Ireland over three days.

The broadcasts will begin each evening at 9pm, which is 6am in Australia the following day, and will go out live during the top-rated show.

The presenter begins her visit in Northern Ireland, taking in some of the scenery of the Causeway Coast and broadcasting live from the Merchant Hotel, Belfast, on Sunday night.

Her next port of call is Fethard in Co Tipperary where she explores the horse-racing tradition of this part of Ireland; she will also look at the connection of infamous outlaw Ned Kelly with Tipperary.

She finishes in Dublin, where she will show off some of the city's main tourist attractions to Australian viewers and broadcast live from Trinity College.

Tourism Ireland welcomed the visit.

Orla Saul, Tourism Ireland's manager for Australia and New Zealand, said: "The Today Show is the most popular morning TV show in Australia, so this live broadcast provides us with wonderful exposure for Ireland.

"It is a fantastic platform to highlight the many things to see and do on a holiday in Ireland to a huge audience across Australia."
