In the presence of the Hon. Thokozile Xasa, the Deputy Minister of Tourism of South Africa, and different other SADC Country Ministers and High Commissioners, Dr. B.S. Maunganidze, the Chairperson of RETOSA, the Southern Africa Regional Tourism Body, opened the Destination Marketing Conference to spell out the decision taken by the regional body to forge ahead and be recognized as the representative organization for the whole Southern Africa region.

RETOSA's inaugural annual event is aimed at creating and enabling an environment for tourism growth and development in Southern Africa, and Dr. Maunganidze congratulated South Africa for having propelled Africa to the world. He also singled out the Seychelles carnival of carnivals, which he said he personally attended and wanted to share his joy about what he saw in how a small country was able to stage such an impressive and successful event for the world.

The Hon. Thokozile Xasa, the Deputy Minister for South Tourism, reiterated the endless possibilities available for Africa, if Africa worked together. Different tourism personalities were part of those who addressed the conference or sat as panel members for the different discussions. These included Diego Lofeudo of Expedia; Prof. Ernie Heath, the Head of the Department of Tourism Management in South Africa; Chanda Musonda Chellah, the Trade Advisor from the Commonwealth Secretariat's Trade Section; Kate Rivett-Carnac, the Acting Manager, Advisory Unit of the Development Bank of Southern Africa; Carol Hay, the Director of Marketing UK & Europe for the Caribbean Tourism Organization; and Alain St.Ange, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board; among others.

Alain St.Ange said after the conference that he was happy to see the Seychelles carnival listed as a big and successful event of Africa. "It is a great achievement for Seychelles, and we feel proud that our work, dedication, and innovative frame of mind is earning us respect across our continent," said Alain St.Ange.
