MANAMA, Bahrain - In a sign of improving security, The General Command of the Bahrain Defence (BDF) announced today that it has reduced curfew hours in the capital city, Bahrain News Agency reports.

According to a statement issued today, the new curfew, which will be effective starting Thursday, May 5th, covers a busy section of Manama and will be imposed from midnight to 4 a.m. This curfew had previously been six hours, from 10 pm to 4 am.

In a separate statement, the BDF General Command also eased curfew on the sea. Sea activities will be prohibited from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m., starting from Wednesday, May 4th. The curfew had originally been 13 hours, from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The reduction of curfews is a sign that the unrest since February is quieting down, officials said. Since March, tourists have been returning to Bahrain, businesses have reopened and students are attending class in full.
