State Office of Tourism sub-contractor arrested

Apr 23, 2008

A sub-contractor for the state Office of Tourism was arrested on larceny charges today after he allegedly made nine illegal withdrawals from the state's tourism account, police said.

Richard Cardone, owner of Colchester-based Office Support System LLC , was responsible for gathering information from visits to the state's tourism website and providing literature to those visiting Connecticut, police said. But a state police investigation, prompted by a complaint filed by the state Office of Tourism, revealed that Cardone had illegally transferred money from the agency's account to his own between June 2006 and May 2007.

Police arrested Cardone on a warrant today and charged him with six counts of first-degree larceny and three counts of second-degree larceny, police said. Cardone, who is being held with bail set at $100,000, is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Norwich in May.
