Two Chinese Navy Frigates will arrive in Port Victoria, Seychelles, on Thursday, April 14. The Seychelles Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jean-Paul Adam, has said that these military assets are a “welcomed and valued contribution to the fight against piracy and are a signal of the determination of Seychelles and China to work together to tackle this scourge."

These vessels are the first Chinese military assets of this class to visit Seychelles. The vessels have been active in the safeguarding of shipping as part of the ongoing fight against piracy off the coast of Somalia.

During their 5-day visit, the crew will be participating in various charity activities on Mahe, the main island of the Seychelles, and providing guided tours on board to local school children. The vessels will also be hosting an Open Day for the Seychellois public on Saturday, April 16 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Seychelles is considered a safe Port of Call for Navies patroling the Indian Ocean.
