Tsunami warning issued and cancelled for Japan

Another major earthquake hit Japan

A Magnitude 7.1 earthquake near the East Coast of Honshu, Japan, was recorded at the US Geological Survey office.

The earthquake was located:

6 km (41 miles) E of Sendai, Honshu, Japan
114 km (70 miles) E of Yamagata, Honshu, Japan
116 km (72 miles) ENE of Fukushima, Honshu, Japan
330 km (205 miles) NNE of TOKYO, Japan

A tsunami warning was issued for regions in Japan, where it is estimated a 3-foot wave may occur. It appears no Pacific-wide Tsunami watch was issued at this time.

UOPDATE: According to reports received by eTN, the Tsunami alert was lifted, but an advisory to stay away from ocean is in effect. Tokyo was jolted, and several buildings were evacuated.

Officials at the tsunami-ravaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant said there's no immediate sign of new problems caused by the aftershock. Plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. said it evacuated two workers there and seven at a sister plant to the south that was not badly damaged.
