China Southern Airlines said its flights to Tokyo's airports were resumed.

The airline canceled its flights to Tokyo Saturday after a devastating quake struck Japan on Friday.

Meanwhile, China Southern Airlines flights to other Japanese cities, including Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo, and Niigata, all maintained normal schedules on Sunday, said a spokesman with the airline.

According to a website statement from the Beijing Capital International Airport, a total of 52 flights to and from Japan took off from and landed at the airport on Sunday.

China Eastern, another major airline in China, said it had 44 flights to and from Japan Sunday.

Earlier on Sunday, a chartered Air China airplane, CCA055, carrying five tonnes of disaster relief supplies and 15 rescue workers, left Beijing for Tokyo International Airport.

A 9.0-magnitude earthquake hit northeastern and eastern Japan Friday, triggering a massive tsunami and causing catastrophic damage.
