The Hong Kong Government has raised the outbound travel alert for Egypt to ‘Black’ — the highest level. It means residents are advised against travelling to the country for any reason. More than 100 people are now thought to have been killed during several days of anti-government protests.
Hundreds of Hong Kong people who are still in Egypt have been urged to avoid protest areas and large crowds.

The Travel Industry Council will meet tomorrow morning to discuss whether more tours to the country will be cancelled. It had earlier decided to scrap all tours to Egypt that had been scheduled to depart before noon on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, 17 Hong Kong holidaymakers who were stranded at Cairo airport on Friday, after a curfew was imposed in the city, were expected to fly out of the country this evening. The General Manager of Wing On Travel, Jojo Chan, said the tour group should arrive home tomorrow.
