BA Martin Broughton Knighted

British Airways chairman receives knighthood

Jan 05, 2011

The UK travel industry was recognised in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List when British Airways chairman Martin Broughton received a knighthood.

Broughton joined a who's who of top businessmen, entrepreneurs, scientists, politicians, sportspeople and actors on the annual list. Also included were pop producer Trevor Horn, Poirot star David Suchet, World Cup referee Howard Webb and singer cum charity campaigner Annie Lennox.

Mr Broughton is credited with returning a struggling BA to half-year profits for the first time in two years. The former CBI president joined the airline in 2005 after rising through the ranks of British American Tobacco.

He was also in the news during 2010 for brokering the sale of Liverpool football club, much to the delight of Liverpool's vociferous supporters.
