MERSING, Malaysia - According to the Malaysian police, three visitors from Singapore were killed Sunday when a boat carrying tourists overturned as it approached a jetty in Mersing.

Two other passengers from Singapore were reported missing.

Police told Bernama news agency the wooden boat was overloaded and had no life jackets aboard when it capsized while bringing a group of tourists back from a fishing platform in Pulau Sibu.

The skipper of the boat and his crewman were placed under arrest, Bernama said.
