Emirates airline announced that effective immediately, all customers can secure UAE visas quickly and efficiently online at www.emirates.com. Emirates launched the application tool in response to new regulations in effect January 2, 2011, requiring that Canadian nationals travelling to the UAE have a valid visa. The visa requirement does not apply to passengers in transit to another destination via Dubai.

“Emirates aims to make the process of securing visas as seamless as possible for Canadians travelling to the UAE so they can focus on enjoying Emirates’ award winning, world-class service aboard the luxurious Emirates A380,” said Don McWilliam, Emirates’ Manager - Canada.

All ticketed Emirates customers can apply for and purchase a 96-hour or 30-day UAE visa at Emirates.com available for $44 USD* and $57 USD* respectively, with payment accepted by credit or debit card. Once approved, the visa is delivered electronically within 10 business days.

Customers must upload copies of their passport bio page, a photograph and proof of residence in order to process the submission and can then easily track the status online. The passenger’s flight itinerary must contain flights in and out of Dubai and one-way flights are not eligible. The maximum application time is 60 business days prior to entrance into the UAE and only one active visa per individual is allowed at any time.

“We want to simplify the process and make it as easy as possible for our guests. We are confident that Emirates’ online visa application system will facilitate Canadian travellers’ plans to visit Dubai,” added McWilliam.

The application system is hosted by VFS Global Services, which will handle all customer support inquiries for pending visa applications. The service is available in English only.

This dispute between governments, I request to UAE government to to issue visa to those Canadians who wants to meet their love one on UEA.

Yes it is absolutely the right of the country to establish visa rules.

However.......
Only Emirates Airlines can arrange a Visa for Canadians, how kind. A little discriminatory but how kind!

So, as a Canadian wanting to visit this wondrous place, I called Emirates Airlines and was told yes they can arrange a visa if I fly with them. However, they conveniently forgot to say you have to fly IN & OUT with Emirates. My outbound was with British Air so I was out of luck.

Now, flights booked, but no way to get a visa. Nothing on the Emirates web site to help. "Sorry can't help you" from the Emirates Air Help Desk. Inconsistent replies from Mahraba Services (which amazingly means Hello & Welcome??). No response from the UAE Embassy phone number in Ottawa, Canada.

Sure, ask for a Visa but tell me how I can get it. Egypt--arrive pay your money and you have your visa. Same in Turkey. Same in Jordan.

So this is really a punitive move to punish ordinary Canadians for what is a government squabble.

Yes, as a previous comment said, many other places to visit with my tourist dollars.

By the way, had heard of the "luxurious" planes that Emirates operates and their great meals. Wrong on both counts. Nothing great about the plane. Awful meals.

I hope this new rule backfires on the people that created it.

Lol, ha ha ha who says Dubai is a tourist destination for Canadians. You Canadian take ur a-holes to Mexico, get robbed, murdered and come back in plastic bags. Leave the Middle East alone, its for Americans, Europeans, Africans and Asians.

The above two rather presumptous comments by Canadians brought a smile to my face.

UAE citizens travelling to Canada need to apply for a visa, and the same goes for other Arab citizens as well. So why the outrage over Canadians required to apply for visas ?

Similarly, the UAE asked Canada for open skies for Emirati airlines to Canadian airports, in return for the FREE access the UAE was giving to the Canadian military from its airbases. When Canada refused the UAE's unremarkable request ( Toronto's airport is served by a number of international carriers on a daily basis in contrast to the measly 3 flights per week afforded each to Etihad and Emirates ), the UAE asked the Canadian forces to leave, which they are within their rights to do as a sovereign country.

I have come across a number of Canadians over the years, and found many of them to have an incredible superiority complex over other nationalities. The expectation that a small country like the UAE will bend over backwards to accomodate Canada in return for nothing is apparently a symptom of a broader attitude problem.

goodbye Dubai,
this is blow into its own face by Dubai authorities, drowning Dubai crashing itself with unreasonable restrictions on Canadians, I will never like flying to Dubai anymore,

a true Canadian.......

As a Canadian citizen Dubai will not be in my short list of holiday destination every again. I refuse to pay the extra for the Visa. Good luck Emirates and good luck Dubai with the new regulation. With my passport I can go to EU/UK/USA/South America (including Cuba) and most of the Asian countries/ persian gulf countries without a visa. I am not gonna pay the extra amount for the UAE visa nor I am gonna sit in front of the monitor and follow the progress!!
A very typical action by a 3rd world county: have problem with politicians let the people suffer and that is what is happening
