Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities launches Saudi Voyager and Tourism Excellence Awards

Under the theme "Discover! Saudi Arabia," the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) is inaugurating the launch of the Saudi Voyager and the Saudi Tourism Excellence Awards program, at SCTA's headquarters in Diplomatic Quarter, Riyadh. The ceremony is under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, President of SCTA, and His Excellency Dr. Abdul Aziz Khoja, Minister of Culture and Information.

On this occasion, Prince Sultan emphasized the importance of tourism to the kingdom’s future economic well-being, both in direct financial terms, as well as the indirect value of job creation among Saudi nationals and explained that Saudi Voyager is just the first step in enhancing the standards of operation within the kingdom’s tourism industry, and it is to be used as a catalyst for the Saudi Excellence in Tourism Awards. On the other hand, the Saudi Excellence in Tourism Awards will raise the quality of the tourism product, as well as shed light on the progressive development in the tourism industry in the kingdom and an annual recognition of the excellent efforts exerted by various tourism sectors throughout the year.

Mr. Abdullah Al Jehani, Vice President of SCTA for Marketing and Media, has stated that "the aim of publication of the Saudi Voyager magazine is targeting a wider audience," explaining that focus will be highlighting the diversity of tourism in Saudi Arabia and the various tourist destinations ranging and varying on the nature of each region to its readers. Mr. Al Jehani, further stated that, Saudi Voyager magazine is directed to the international communities living in the kingdom, and to those interested in tourism to introduce the cultural dimension and historical heritage of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which has rich diversity, as well as to highlight the efforts of the commission and its prominent role in the development of national tourism.

On the other hand, "The Saudi Tourism Excellence Award," SCTA's latest initiative, aims at recognizing the efforts of individuals and organizations which makes the effort and investment to improve their tourism product and service. There are eight sections having twenty-five individual sub-categories, which are applicable to all aspects of the tourism industry whether an individual providing a personalized service, such as a tour guide or hotel concierge, or a large international group with an established or newly-launched project, in which anyone can enter a nomination. Customers can even nominate their favorite hotel or restaurant.

The categories include accommodation, shopping and entertainment, food and beverage, transportation, the tourism industry, MICE, people, special recognition award, and the SCTA President recognition award.
In this respect, Mr. Al Jehani stated, "The awards program is an incentive to the spirit of fair competition," adding, "stimulation usually leads to improvement in the quality of the product."

The announcement of the winners will take place at a Gala Event in Riyadh on March 29, 2011 as a central event of the 2011 Saudi Travel and Tourism Investment Market (STTIM 2011).
